Peter Wilson

Peter’s marvelous glaze surfaces are testament to long years of experience, patience and diligence involving continual experimentation, testing and recording of results. His primary interest is the effect of the fire which transforms ceramic materials into glaze and he can be regarded as a master of this medium. He values working with clay, one of the commonest of the earth’s materials, and seeks to create individual pieces in a time of mass production. Peter has chosen to work with the vessel as his main focus, creating simple forms designed to complement the glazed surfaces, seeing the combination of surface and form as the essential elements of the potter. In his many years as a lecturer at Charles Sturt University and as a practicing potter, Peter has always seen the importance of striving for “something extra in the work, some intuitive effect that is uniquely the fire”.
