The gallery features ceramicists specialising in many different techniques (wheel thrown, slip cast, hand built, functional ware, sculpture) and using a variety of clays from earthenware and raku to high fired stoneware and porcelain with a range of firing styles and glazing techniques. Many ceramicists dig their own clay, combining elements to achieve a body appropriate for their work and may also mix their own glazes using a variety of raw materials.
The complexity of combining clays with compatible glazes suitable for different firing techniques presents challenges in a medium that is part art, part chemistry. This helps give rise to a cohesive ceramics community where information is shared, individuals are supported and the medium is celebrated.
